FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots are preparing to head to Wisconsin for joint practices with the Green Bay Packers, hosting one final practice at Gillette Stadium before traveling.

And with that came increased physicality, with the team doing additional tackling drills.

However that also came at the expense of one top player.

During a 1-on-1 tackling drill, Mike Gesicki was brought down by Jahlani Tavai and immediately grabbed his shoulder following the play. He was helped off the field by the trainers and left practice.

Gesicki did not return for the remainder of practice.

Here’s what else I saw from Monday's Patriots practice:

  • Anfernee Jennings also suffered a wrist/hand injury later on in practice. He was on the ground in apparent pain and left the practice area, not returning for the remainder of the session.
  • At the end of the practice, three rookie linemen had to field punts with the possibility of getting out early from meetings on the line. Sidy Sow, Atonio Mafi, and Keion White were the ones selected. And while Sow wasn't able to catch his, Mafi and White did.

“Coach gave us a word that we might get out of here early,” Matthew Slater said. “(Two for three) should at least get us out of here before eight o’clock, right?”
  • Jabrill Peppers had faith in White the entire time, saying "I knew Keion was gonna get it done."
  • -Shaun Wade had the only interception of the day on Bailey Zappe for what would have been a pick-six.

-Tyquan Thornton records his first pass from Mac Jones this summer

– Rough practice for Jack Andrews, who had a false start and had to do a lap followed by a bad snap to Zappe later on.

– With Mike Onwenu still on PUP, Riley Reiff was seen at right guard.

Bill Belichick was asked about Onwenu prior to the start of practice, with many wondering if this puts his return at jeopardy.

"Day-to-day. Take it day-to-day," Belichick said. "When he’s ready we’ll put him out there. If he’s not ready, then he’ll stay on PUP, same as all of the other players that are in that same classification. When they’re ready, they’re ready."
