Trent Brown, Patriots Training Camp

FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots have some new faces on the coaching staff for the 2023 season, and they have certainly received a warm welcome.

Among the new hires is Bill O'Brien, who was brought in as the offensive coordinator, and Adrian Klemm, the offensive line coach.

One player who is working with both coaches closely spoke about what they bring to the team following the first day of training camp.

Simply put: he's a fan.

The offensive lineman obviously spends the most time with Klemm, who brings both playing and coaching experience to the Patriots organization.

“It’s been lovely. He brings a newer, younger attitude to the offensive line position,” Trent Brown said about working with Klemm.

Klemm began his playing career with the New England Patriots, being drafted in the second round (46th overall pick) in the 2000 NFL Draft. A four-year starter out of the University of Hawaii, he spent the first five years of his career with New England, winning three Super Bowls, before joining the Green Bay Packers for his last professional playing season.

Brown believes that his playing experience is crucial and elevates Klemm's coaching abilities.

“I think it definitely goes a long way,” Brown said about being coached by a former player. “He actually understands what goes on out there between those lines. It’s one thing for somebody to hold the clicker or marker in the classroom, but somebody who’s actually played, they understand both sides.’

As for the other new hire, Bill O'Brien made his return to the Patriots organization as the offensive coordinator and his experience combined with his excitement brings new motivation to the team.

“I love his attitude,” Brown said about O’Brien. “I think he speaks a language that will get everybody fired up and excited to play ball.”

“He just brings excitement and energy to the room, to the whole building honestly. I love him,” he added. “You guys also know Bill has been here before and he’s bringing an attitude. He’s bringing that back. Guys are just excited to play for him and for each other.”

All in all, Brown said that fans can expect to see "traditional Patriot football."

Brown's excitement over the new coaches shows a different attitude heading into the 2023 season after the struggles last year. While he skipped out on OTAs and was late to mandatory minicamp, Belichick confirmed on Tuesday that Brown had "been here the last four days," and "looks ready to go."

Brown is entering his ninth season in the league, and fourth with the Patriots. He is also heading into a contract year, having signed a two-year contract in March 2022.

While he didn't comment on whether he would like to remain in New England after this season, instead saying that he is focused on the present, Brown will need to play his best football to show his worth.
