After weeks of ups and downs, Malik Cunningham finally gets an opportunity. However, this one will not be with the New England Patriots.
The quarterback was signed by the Baltimore Ravens off the Patriots practice squad on Tuesday morning. And one New England starter sent a very clear message to Cunningham, while also hinting at some major problems.
"@Malikc_3 go flourish where your talent is respected lil bradda," OT Trent Brown wrote on Instagram.
The opportunity to be on the active roster was too good for Cunningham to pass up after the Patriots truly did not take advantage of him while on the team.
He began the season on the practice squad, but was promoted to the active roster on Oct. 14. Just 10 days later, he was released and signed back to the practice squad.
Since being re-signed, he has been elevated twice, both times being when Bailey Zappe was named as the starter.
However, he hasn't taken a single snap during those games. So now he gets the chance to possibly play a little more in Baltimore.
And clearly Brown is happy for his former teammate, while also sending a bit of a message to his current team.
Cunningham shined during the preseason and with all the quarterback controversy, many fans have been wanting to see the rookie get a chance. But they continued to pass over him.
And it seems even Brown wanted him to get a chance.
