The New England Patriots newest signing is off to a rough start.

Trey Flowers, who was signed by the Patriots on Tuesday morning after a successful workout, has been placed on the physically unable to perform list, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said.

This is his second stint with the Patriots, having started his career in New England.

Flowers was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, spending his rookie season on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury. However, in his second year, he recorded 7 sacks and was key in helping the Patriots win the Super Bowl.

He finished with 2.5 sacks against the Atlanta Falcons, with the Patriots overcoming a 28-3 halftime deficit to win.

Across his four seasons in New England, Flowers recorded 164 tackles and 21 sacks, and is now reuniting with his former team.

And Bill Belichick was asked about what Flowers can add to the team, giving his typical answer.

"Well, we’ll see. He hasn’t played in a while, got injured in September of last year, so yeah, we’ll see," Belichick said on Tuesday morning. "Look, I haven’t seen Trey in a few years, but he’s been a hardworking guy, loves football, competes well, smart player."

He also confirmed that Flowers would not be practicing right away and was seen on the lower conditioning fields during Tuesday's session. Yet, he did come up to watch some of the 11-on-11 team drills.

Flowers has stops with the Detroit Lions for three years and spent a season with the Miami Dolphins following his first stint with the Patriots.

Despite the fact that Flowers has only played 18 games over the last three years and has been plagued with injury, he knows the Patriot way and can help the defense improve.
