Tyquan Thornton will start the 2023 season the same way he began last season.
The second-year receiver was placed on Injured Reserve, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Wednesday.
He will be out for a minimum of four weeks.
Thornton suffered a shoulder injury during the first joint practice with the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 17, making a diving catch from Mac Jones. He landed hard on his shoulder and immediately left practice.
He avoided being waived on cutdown day, making the initial 53-man roster before being placed on injured reserve.
This is the second straight season that Thornton will begin the season on injured reserve, having broken his collarbone during the Patriots second preseason game last year. He finished his rookie season with 22 receptions for 247 yards and two touchdowns across 13 games.
With this move, the Patriots have an additional spot open on the roster and could look to bring back one player the previously waived or a new player to add depth to the roster.
