For Brenden Schooler, Sunday's game will always be one to remember.

The Patriots' special teams ace has proven to be key for the team since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2022. But on Sunday, he took on a new role, going above and beyond for New England.

In the third quarter, Schooler and defensive end Keion White combined to sack Bears quarterback Caleb Williams for an eight yard loss.

“It was awesome,” Schooler said about the play. “It was my first career sack ever – going back to Pop Warner, high school and college. So it was a pretty cool feeling.”

Schooler's involvement was known as the Patriots' “Longhorn” package.

“Every single time third down was up, I was looking over at (DeMarcus Covington), seeing if he was going to throw up the Longhorn signal for me to get in there,“ Schooler explained. ”Just super, super excited to get in there and just help the team in any way we can today.”

And it was clear that he impressed everyone.

“He‘s fast, he‘s athletic and he’s a football player, Jerod Mayo said. ”We try not to put anyone in a box and I’m not going to put him in one.”

As for defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, he is excited to see more from Schooler.

"He needs to be there more often, especially against fast quarterbacks," Godchaux told the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed. "We got Josh Allen, we got a couple of them coming up. He needs to be on defense more often.”

The Patriots signed Schooler to a three-year contract extension in October, and the reactions afterwards truly showed that New England got a good one.

“The fact that 30 coaches texted me and telling me, ‘Hey, it’s really good you locked him up because I’ll tell you right now if you didn’t do that, he was going to go somewhere and get locked up for a pretty good amount of money,’” special teams coach Jeremy Springer said. “That lets you know how many coaches respect him around the league and what he means to the team that they would actually do that right now in the season. He’s a phenomenal leader for us. A phenomenal guy. He deserves everything.”

Schooler is truly something special and the Patriots are taking full advantage of everything he can do.
