FOXBOROUGH, Mass – It didn't take long for Tyquan Thornton to find a new home.

The New England Patriots released the receiver over the weekend, but to start the new week, the Kansas City Chiefs already signed Thornton to the practice squad.

Throughout his two and a half years in Foxborough, Thornton became close with some of the other receivers, one of which is Kendrick Bourne.

So on Wednesday, Bourne was asked about Thornton joining the Chiefs. And his answer was perfect.

“He has a 9-1 record now, which is crazy,” Bourne told reporters.

He's not wrong.

Thornton went from a 3-8 team to a 9-1 team. Plus, the Chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl champions, and are going for a three-peat.

Charles Goldman, A to Z Sports' Chiefs reporter, provided some clarity on why the Chiefs were interested.

"It's easy to see what attracts Kansas City to Thornton, though. The former Baylor Bear posted a 4.28s 40-yard dash time leading up to the 2022 NFL Draft. That's speed something that you simply can't teach and something that Andy Reid knows how to use in his offense all too well."

The Patriots selected Thornton in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but he struggled to become a true weapon for the Patriots.

Now he's getting a chance on the Chiefs practice squad to work with veterans such as DeAndre Hopkins and Travis Kelce. Plus it's a reunion with JuJu Smith-Schuster, and he gets to compete with another speedster in Xavier Worthy.

A fresh start for Thornton with so many possibilities.
