Mac Jones looked a little bit better in Sunday's loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, but it still wasn't enough. And a lot of the blame this time can be placed on the offensive line.

The quarterback was given no time in the pocket, instead forced to throw the ball away or into the hands of the other team.

And that also allowed the Raiders to finish the game with a safety, sacking Jones in the end zone.

The Patriots officially drop to 1-5 this season.

FINAL SCORE: Patriots 17, Raiders 21

Notable Plays

First Quarter

– The Patriots forced the Raiders to kick a field goal on the opening drive, but Sam Roberts was called for a personal foul. This instead gave Las Vegas a first down, but they were unable to get into the end zone once again.

Daniel Carlson hit the 25-yard field goal to put the Raiders up by 3 on a drive that took over eight minutes.

– New England goes three-and-out on their opening drive, getting flagged for a false start followed by an incomplete pass where the Patriots were also flagged for an ineligible man downfield (but that was declined). Rhamondre Stevenson dropped the pass on third down, forcing the team to punt.

-After getting flagged for a personal foul, Jahlani Tavai was able to intercept a ball intended for Devante Adams. Adams was hit hard by Jabrill Peppers, who knocked the ball away and allowed Tavai to grab it.

Adams got up on his own after the play, but appeared shaken up.

– Malik Cunningham took his first snap as an NFL quarterback, handing it off to Rhamondre Stevenson. Yet, he just was able to get three yards on the two carries and then Jones was sacked on third down, forcing another three-and-out. This was not at the fault of Jones, who is given no time in the pocket due to horrid offensive line play.

Third down was a coverage sack, the offensive line was finally able to give Jones a few seconds in the pocket, but none of the receivers separated.

Second Quarter

– Jakobi Meyers, who the Patriots did not re-sign following the 2022 season, scored the first touchdown of the game after Jimmy Garoppolo located him wide-open in the end zone for a 12-yard score.

With that touchdown, the Patriots have officially allowed 79 unanswered points.

– A holding penalty called on Hunter Henry brings back what would've been a 74-yard touchdown run from Ezekiel Elliott. Kendrick Bourne followed it up with a 36 yard reception.

Chad Ryland's 44 yard field goal was good.

– Mac Jones is under pressure and throws an interception straight into the hands of Trevon Moehrig-Woodard despite having Hunter Henry wide open.

– Carlson hits the 37-yard field goal to put the Raiders up by 10 at the half.

HALFTIME SCORE: Patriots 3, Raiders 13

**Per ESPNStatsInfo, the Patriots have gone 12 straight quarters without a TD, tied for the longest streak in franchise history (1991).

Third Quarter

– Jimmy Garoppolo is doubtful to return with a back injury according to the CBS broadcast, so it will be Brian Hoyer in to start the half for the Raiders.

– Rhamondre Stevenson opened the half with a big run, but was slow to get up and limped over to the sidelines with the trainers. He headed straight into the blue medical tent, but later came out with his ankle taped and was going through a workout on the sideline.

– The Patriots (finally) get into the end zone after Ezekiel Elliott converts on the direct snap for a 2-yard touchdown. His score snapped a drought of 39 consecutive drives without a touchdown for the Patriots.

– Carlson hits the 30-yard field goal and puts the Raiders up by six points.

– Jonathan Jones was also shaken up after a play and went to the sidelines, being ruled as questionable to return with a knee injury.

Fourth Quarter

– Carlson is good for the 24-yard field goal, giving the Raiders a nine point lead.

– Injuries continued to plague the Patriots, with TE Hunter Henry (ankle) and LB Josh Uche (foot) being marked as questionable to return with just over eight minutes remaining in the game.

– Ty Montgomery had an impressive catch, hauling in a pass from Mac Jones that should have been an interception. However, Montgomery was able to snag it out of the air.

– Rhamondre Stevenson gets his second rushing touchdown of the season with just over three minutes remaining in the game.

– Mac Jones had arguably the best throw of the season, but the ball was dropped by Devante Parker. Soon after, he was sacked in the end zone resulting in a Raiders safety.

– Garoppolo's injury seems serious, with Heidi Fang reporting that she saw the Raiders quarterback get into an ambulance.
