One quarterback has been eliminated as a possible starter for Sunday's matchup against the New York Giants.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the New England Patriots have waived quarterback Will Grier.

This move clears up a spot for OT Conor McDermott, who is out of practice squad elevations and was expected to be elevated to the active roster prior to the game.

Grier was competing for the starting role this week, but it seems that it is officially down to Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe.

He signed with the Patriots at the end of September off the Cinncinati Bengals practice squad and has primarily served as the third-string quarterback behind Jones and Zappe.

Grier began his career with the Carolina Panthers, being selected in the third round fo the 2019 NFL Draft. He then went to the Dallas Cowboys before his short stint with the Bengals.

With this move, it will be interesting to see if Malik Cunningham is elevated prior to the game to serve as the third-string.

According to NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry, Jones and Zappe split first-team reps this week at practice. So at this point it is fairly certain that it will b one of them starting on Sunday.
