Potential No. 1 overall pick leaning on Patriots QB Mac Jones for advice
Mac Jones and Bryce Young were teammates for one year at Alabama
For the third time in four years, an Alabama quarterback is expected to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
This year’s top Alabama QB prospect, Bryce Young, has been leaning on 2021 No. 15 overall pick Mac Jones for advice.
“I was talking to Mac earlier this week and he gave me a lot of great advice about kind of just how to carry yourself, things that he’s learned in his years there," Young said Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine. A lot of things that I’m going to take and hold onto, and I’m super grateful for the guidance I’ve gotten from him on top of many other NFL players.”
Young backed up Jones during the 2020 Alabama season before starting his last two years with the Crimson Tide.
Young will finally answer questions about his size on Saturday before working out in front of NFL personnel. He was listed at 6-feet, 194 pounds at Alabama, but those are typically inexact measurements.
Young could go as high as the No. 1 overall pick and he met with the Chicago Bears, who own that selection. The expectation, since the Bears drafted Justin Fields with the eighth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is that Chicago will trade the first overall pick to another QB-needy team. Florida’s Anthony Richardson, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud and Kentucky’s Will Levis are also in contention to be the first QB off the board.
