Patriots LB Robert Spillane doesn’t hold back on Tom Brady following his controversial stance regarding Super Bowl LX matchup
Robert Spillane made it clear how he feels about Tom Brady’s rooting interest in the Super Bowl.
Robert Spillane comes from humble NFL beginnings. A former undrafted free agent who made his bones with the Tennessee Titans before making a name for himself with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders, the recently turned 30-year-old has found a home with the New England Patriots.
It’s not a shock to see the way the fanbase embraces him, given his high-octane, no-nonsense playstyle. He’s the perfect inside backer for a Mike Vrabel-led team. His passion for the Patriots is obvious, and when asked about Tom Brady’s rooting interest in Sunday’s Super Bowl, that passion reached another level.
Robert Spillane calls out Tom Brady
Tom Brady said earlier this week that “he doesn’t have a dog in the fight” when it comes to Sunday’s Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks. That’s an odd statement from a quarterback who won six Super Bowls with an organization playing in said game, and Spillane clearly took issue with that.
“Personally it makes me sick,” said Spillane via Karen Guregian of MassLive Sports.
Perhaps that’s the broadcast journalist in Tom Brady, seeing as part of his job as a Fox broadcaster is to be impartial to the product on the field. Or maybe it’s because he’s a stakeholder with the Las Vegas Raiders, and he’s influential on the moves within the franchise.
Regardless, this is one of those scenarios where saying anything probably gets you in hot water somewhere, so why not say that you’re rooting for the team that made you famous and put you in the rooms that you’re in today?
Of course, Brady could still be bitter about how things ended, viewing himself as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That wouldn’t make a ton of sense, given that he was inducted to the Patriots Hall of Fame over a year and a half ago.
The bottom line is, Brady does have a dog in the fight, even if he doesn’t want to admit it.
