For 24 years in New England, Bill Belichick has been running the show. And Tom Brady and Jerod Mayo both experienced that at its height.
However, the 2024 season will mark a new era for the Patriots with Mayo in charge. And on Tuesday, Tom Brady opened up about the new head coach during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.
And it's safe to say he's a fan of Robert Kraft's decision.
“Jerod was a great leader. A great captain. A great friend,” Brady said. “I think he had a tremendous amount of success in football and then had success in other parts of his life when he retired. Him coming back into coaching, I think is great for the NFL and certainly great for the Patriots. He’s got a great understanding of how things need to be done. I think Jerod does an incredible job relating to everybody in the locker room, all the coaches, and I think he’ll do a great job.”
Brady even once referenced Mayo as "Jerod Belichick."
While there is still a lot to be seen from Mayo, who is given a very difficult job of following behind Belichick, getting this endorsement from Brady is certainly a boost.
He's started the process of building up his coaching staff and the roster will follow. So it will be interesting what Brady has to say on the FOX broadcast next year when he's (hopefully) calling a few Patriots games.
