Kobee Minor will forever hold an iconic title from the 2025 NFL Draft.

The New England Patriots selected the Memphis cornerback with the 257th overall pick, marking the last pick in the draft.

And for Minor, the "Mr. Irrelevant" title is one he is going to hold very proudly.

"I love it, actually. It's just fuel to my fire," he told reporters. "I'm going to just continue to work and I'm excited for this opportunity."

So, why did the Patriots feel Minor was the right selection for that final pick.

"Kobee's a guy that our scouts that went into Memphis this year got on early," Patriots vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf explained. "I think to answer your question, he was a double transfer guy. He started his career at Texas Tech and then played one year at Indiana and then actually transferred to Memphis this year. He transferred kind of late, so I don't know that he was necessarily on the radar early in the season for some people. He had a hamstring, so he came back from it and played well.

But, the Patriots' scouts noticed that he had a lot of promise.

"The movement skills at practice, the ability to play the football in the air, his competitiveness, we brought him in for a pre-draft visit, a 30 visit, and he did a really nice job on that," Wolf added. "He was a guy that we had some affinity for. Mr. Irrelevant, a pretty cool experience for him, but we were excited to be able to add him."

And when Minor finally received that phone call, it made it all worth it.

"It's just a blessing. I've been waiting all day. I didn't know if I was going to get the call or not," he said. "I ended up waiting until the last pick and I ended up getting that call. My heart was racing. So, I'm thankful."

Minor went on to explain how he was never a player who was "highly recruited" or considered "one of the top guys." So because of that, he will do what he's done before, which is "put my head down and grind."

So, what can Patriots fans expect from their new cornerback?

"I would say I'm a dog, in my opinion, for sure. You're going to get a hard worker, a guy that does everything right on and off the field," he stated. "You're getting a good football player and a better person. That's all I'm going to say."
