The New Orleans Saints did not have to worry about one thing for over a decade.
Now, it is their biggest worry of all.
That's the quarterback position.
One thing is pretty clear. The future of the Saints at the QB position is not on the roster.
Therefore, they are at another QB controversy crossroads. Without their first round pick in 2023, that situation becomes even tougher.
The Saints have to attempt to navigate the rest of the season with a trio of Andy Dalton, Jameis Winston, and Taysom Hill.
Although, they don't seem to see Hill as an option for full-time QB right now.
Dalton has played well at times since Winston suffered multiple injuries, but his time is dwindling. Dalton's play has struggled over the last few weeks, and people are clamoring for a change.
Let's be honest, though. Does a change to Winston really affect all that much?
Consider the fact that Jameis has barely played this season and has spent most of the year injured. There's reason to believe that the offense would not get much better with him at QB.
Making a move to Hill would be the ultimate arrow to the heart of Winston and Dalton.
Hill has not been practicing with the quarterbacks this season, but there is a possibility that he may make the offense as efficient as it can be right now.
There is no way to know without giving it a shot.
The NFC South is wide open still, and the Saints still have a shot at the division crown.
Accordingly, they are going to have to be open to anything. Playing this situation too conservatively will only doom the Saints further this season.
For the long-term, their answer is not currently in the building.
It probably won't be in the 2023 draft, either. They could get a first round selection from trading Sean Payton during the off-season, but that is yet another unknown.
The Saints have the most terrifying issue in the NFL, and they have to navigate it sooner rather than later.
