It's a common thing for players to want to spend their entire career with one team. Not everyone gets an opportunity to do that for multiple reasons, but New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara just put himself in a position to do so.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garofolo, Kamara agreed with the Saints on a two-year contract extension worth $24.5 million. This is his third contract with the Saints, a rarity for a running back in today's game.

The deal replaces the final year of his five-year, $75 million contract where Kamara was due a base salary of $22.4 million and was a potential cut candidate due to his high salary and the Saints' salary cap situation. Garofolo clarified this point, as the final year of his contract was "never meant to be paid," which is something that isn't a big deal to Kamara, because he's not just in it for the money.

This is a really good deal for Kamara who is still playing at a high level at age 29 and the Saints will see some salary cap relief from the move, something they needed going into the 2024 season. This way, they get to keep their star running back and also get the relief they need.
