Last week, the Saints and their fans got a bit of a wake-up call off of the field.
The NFL fined the Saints a total of over $500,000. Why did the league do that? They felt that Saints' defensive end Cameron Jordan faked an injury during last week's game against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Multiple other fines were levied for the same reasoning to others across the league.
As you'd expect, the Saints did not agree with this decision by the NFL. They did not think that Jordan had done anything wrong, and some of the factors in the situation back that up.
After seemingly sustaining the injury, Jordan did not return until the Bucs' next offensive drive. Additionally, he was checked out in the medical tent during the time he was out of the game.
Now, Jordan is firing back at the NFL for the fines, believing they are completely out of line.
It is a sticky situation for the league and the Saints. It'll be difficult for the NFL to truly prove that there was wrongdoing by Jordan or the staff.
That goes for any fines handed out for this particular reasoning. The gray area is a bit difficult to escape when it comes to faking injuries or not.
Jordan's mentioning of his "fat foot" from this past week due to the foot injury from that game is especially intriguing, too. He says that he even had an MRI on the foot.
There won't be a way for fans to know the truth about any of this, but it certainly raises some questions.
It will be really interesting to see what comes of all this between Jordan, the Saints, and the NFL.
