The New Orleans Saints thought they may be without their starting quarterback for some time after last week's loss to the Green Bay Packers. Derek Carr left the game with a sprained AC Joint.
Fast forward a few days. Carr could return without missing a full game for New Orleans. He practiced in limited fashion on Friday, but he did lead the first-team offense and ran red zone drills effectively. Carr doesn't look hindered by his injury, according to multiple sources.
The possibility of him starting is looking much more likely than it did at the beginning of the week for Carr and the Saints.
The reports are positive. Of course, that doesn't mean that Carr will play. That being said, the 'limiting' factor is the key one here.
If Carr is healthy enough to play, he will want to, and the Saints will probably choose to play him. He gives them the best chance to win – as long as the reports that he looks healthy are accurate.
Not to mention, neither Carr nor the staff has ruled him out in any capacity earlier this week. HC Dennis Allen said he was considered week-to-week after Sunday's loss, but that wasn't a guaranteed timetable.
Carr has already mentioned that he will not play if he believes that his injury would limit he or the offense. The veteran will only start if he thinks that he can give the Saints their best chance to win this week.
For New Orleans, they cannot hurry him back. Although, if he looks impressive and says he can play effectively, don't be surprised if Carr is the starter in Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
