The New Orleans Saints are undergoing plenty of changes this offseason. Losing one of their longest-tenured coaches may be added to the list after some recent NFL coaching updates.

Darren Rizzi

The interim Saints head coach from this season has interviewed for the full-time position in New Orleans. That being said, there's plenty of candidates that the Saints are entertaining, still.

Elsewhere, the Denver Broncos recently fired special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport. That opens up a spot on Sean Payton's staff for Rizzi, if he does not get a HC job this cycle.

The move to fire Kotwica seems like less of an indictment on him and more of Payton wanting to reunite with Darren Rizzi, who Rapoport named as a potential replacement. Rizzi served as Payton's special teams coordinator with the New Orleans Saints from 2019-2021. — Nick Roesch

This reunion would make plenty of sense. If Rizzi does not get the HC job in New Orleans, it's tough to see a return for him on their staff.

The new head coach would most likely want to bring in some of his own guys to create his staff when it comes to assistants. Retaining the coach who was elevated when Dennis Allen was fired would be a risky move, albeit a confident move.

No matter what – it seems like Rizzi will get another chance to coach in the NFL immediately, even if it isn't in New Orleans.

He's already interviewed with the New York Jets for their HC opening as well, but it doesn't seem like he is the favorite to land that job right now.
