Tension. Questions. Frustration. Three things that have ravaged the New Orleans Saints and their fans this season.
The team was expected to contend for the NFC South title once again. Many believed that they could be a dark horse playoff team in the NFC entering the season.
Fast forward about three months. The Saints sit at a sloppy 4-8 record, and dysfunction has been a common theme in games.
New Orleans just cannot find the right consistency weekly to win games at an efficient rate.
There are weeks when the offense looks pretty impressive, but the defense makes massive mistakes. Other games are decided by the offense's struggles while the defense keeps it close.
The balance is completely out of whack under Dennis Allen.
Unfortunately, that has become a trend for teams under Allen as their head coach.
Allen's tenure as the Raiders' head coach was ugly. That has been discussed plenty this season.
There was concern from some before the year because of those results, too.
That being said, many folks thought that the talent the Saints have this season was much better than his Raiders' rosters. It doesn't seem to be making too much of a difference.
There's a possibility that the Saints only win 5-6 games. The Raiders never won more than four games in a season under Allen.
There was a precedent, but the Saints' front office gave him the benefit of the doubt. Now, that looks like a decision that may cost the Saints their season.
Accordingly, it may force New Orleans to be back in the head coach search after the season. Only time will tell.
