The 2025 NFL Draft has been quite the whirlwind. For the New Orleans Saints, they selected a brand new quarterback in the second round. Kellen Moore chose Louisville QB Tyler Shough over some other prospect options, like Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Alabama's Jalen Milroe.

Long-time NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. was a big fan of Sanders' game. He was his top-ranked QB in the entire class

Mel Kiper Jr. calls out Saints for taking Tyler Shough over Shedeur Sanders

Kiper Jr. had some choice words for the Saints before they chose Shough in round two. He was the 40th overall selection, and Sanders continued to fall. He was not picked during the second day of the draft.

“If the Saints don’t take Shedeur Sanders, thats one of the biggest blunders in the NFL Draft in a long time.” — Kiper Jr. via ESPN

During round one, Kiper shared his strong beliefs that Sanders should be picked. He was truly in disbelief that so many teams were overlooking the rookie QB, and he made sure to let the entire nation know about it as well.

Shedeur Sanders was widely expected to be a first or second-round pick ahead of this year's draft. For some analysts, he was their top-rated QB prospect in the entire class. Clearly, that projection was not shared inside the league.

Kellen Moore's reasoning for taking Tyler Shough

The Saints new head coach talked about why he felt like Shough was a smart pick for his offense. He's got plenty of faith in Shough.

"He has a great arm. He can attack every aspect of the field."

"He's ready to compete in our quarterback room."

One would think that the outcome of the Shough pick will heavily affect the future of Moore as the team's head coach. It's his first major splash addition at the most important position in all of football.
