Let's get one thing straight real quick. The Cincinnati Bengals are a great team, even if their record doesn't quite reflect that. That is a big reason this Sunday was a big deal for the New Orleans Saints. Not only that, but then you add in all of the storylines from this week, coming into this game.
There is the Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase returning to the place they won a national championship for in college.
This game, win or loss, was going to be huge for the Saints no matter what. If they won, it was going to show they could beat good teams, and the Bengals fit into that category as they are coming off of a Super Bowl appearance. It would also show how resilient and relentless they are.
Even in a loss though, the Saints still showed something big time.
The Saints lost on Sunday to the Bengals, after controlling the game for 55 minutes or more. They ended up blowing it within the last five minutes or so.
Yes, it's frustrating. But, there is one thing every fan should take away from this game, even if they are mad about how the game ended.
First, let's start by saying that the game should have been won, and it should be a win over a very good Bengals team. Secondly, and this is the main thing, the Saints showed they can win while being devastated by injuries.
They didn't have a single starting wide receiver for this game, and had a backup quarterback in Andy Dalton, along with a battered and beaten-up secondary.
The Saints were dealing with all of that, and still, almost beat, and should have beat, a very good Bengals team that is somewhat healthy. To me, that says more about the Saints than it does about the Bengals.
It says the Saints can be very good when they are fully healthy. Just one thing for fans to keep in mind after this tough loss.
