Mark Ingram inducted into Alabama Sports Hall of Fame
Former Saints running back Mark Ingram was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame last weekend. Ingram spent a decade in the NFL with the Saints and became an emotional leader and fan favorite player, alongside fellow RB Alvin Kamara.
As good as Ingram was in his pro days, his collegiate production was even better. He left the University of Alabama with the fourth-most rushing yards in program history. 3,261 yards was his career total with the Tide.
He helped lead the Tide to an undefeated regular season in 2008, but his 2009 season was when Ingram became a household name. Rushing for 1,658 yards and 17 touchdowns while catching 32 passes for 334 yards and three touchdowns, Ingram was instrumental in the Tide's return to the SEC championship in 2009. With 113 yards and three touchdowns against the Gators in the SEC championship, Ingram secured Alabama's first-ever Heisman Trophy. He didn't stop there, rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns in the BCS National Championship against Texas to secure the Crimson Tide's 13th national championship in school history. — Tide1009.com
For New Orleans, Ingram created one of the best rushing duos in recent memory around the NFL. For Sean Payton's offense, Ingram and Kamara had a wonderful balance of elusiveness, speed, and power that helped Drew Brees and the rest of the offense see plenty of success.
During that span, New Orleans was routinely a top five offense in the league. Many fans became enamored with Ingram's energy alongside his teammates. Ingram made the Pro Bowl three times in his pro career.
In July of 2023, Ingram announced his retirement from playing football.
