It's no secret that former New Orleans Saints defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson has always played and acted upon plenty of energy.

He played this past season with the Detroit Lions. That included a trip to the NFC Championship. It was a painful one, though. Detroit held a 24-7 halftime lead, but the San Francisco 49ers brought it back in the second half to secure a Super Bowl berth.

With a 21-7 lead, Gardner-Johnson taunted the 49ers fans in the crowd. He waved goodbye to them, although it is unlikely many folks were leaving in the first half of just a two-score game.

The player coined 'CGJ' in New Orleans has always showed plenty of emotion on the field and been a fierce competitor. As of late, some of his antics have come back to bite him.

The Saints traded Gardner-Johnson to the Eagles in 2022 due to his frustration with the coaching staff and front office.

He wanted to get paid like a top safety on the market, but his play did not quite live up to that. Additionally, there were reported disputes when it came to him practicing without a new deal in New Orleans. The team chose to move on, and it probably was not the worst long-term decision in the world.

Regardless, Gardner-Johnson's actions came back to bite him in the biggest game of his career. He will be a free agent this offseason.
