‘It is a special place to me and will be forever’ — Former Saints playmaker pours his heart out for New Orleans following recent retirement
An appreciative message to the Saints as he hangs up the cleats.
A former New Orleans Saints running back is hanging up his cleats. He joins a plethora of other Saints players to decide to walk away from the NFL this offseason, but he holds New Orleans near and dear to his heart as he does.
Latavius Murray retires from the NFL
Murray announced his retirement at the end of July, but he recently discussed the impact that the Saints and their fans had on his career. He’s incredibly appreciative of the organization and everyone involved for his time in black and gold.
The long-time NFL running back had some of his most productive seasons of his career with the Saints. Between 2019 and 2020, in two seasons, Murray rushed for over 1,200 yards and nine touchdowns with New Orleans. He was a consistent, powerful force in the running game and provided great depth for the offense.
Reflecting on his time, a few different quotes stood out from the former RB in his recent conversation with John DeShazier.
“I even did something I hadn’t done anywhere else, and that was catch a receiving touchdown and both of those came from (quarterback) Drew (Brees),”
“I just think the organization giving me that call back in free agency was still, to this day, one of the most humbling phone calls just because I knew where they had been in previous years, to be that close. And the fact that they felt I was a part of what would be right, trying to still go and chase after that and make that happen, I was just honored. I was humbled.”
“I really thought I found my way there being under (Coach) Sean (Payton) and the culture that he created. The city of New Orleans, it truly is up there. As far as the teams I played for, it is a special place to me and will be forever, honestly.” — Murray via New Orleans Saints
You can tell the emotion connected to Murray when it comes to the Saints. He was committed to make an impact, and he certainly did that during his stint with the team. Murray played in the NFL for ten years. He spent time with six different teams during that span.
Murray is now coaching running backs and is the running game coordinator at Titusville High School in Florida. Saints fans will appreciate how much Murray valued his time with New Orleans.
