Former Saints QB Teddy Bridgewater may have just legally altered middle and high school sports forever
The fan favorite is making an impact on multiple levels of football.
The New Orleans Saints had an era of Teddy Bridgewater that fans loved. The backup QB stepped in for Drew Brees during the 2019 season and played well in his place. Bridgewater finished that season with 1,384 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions in nine games for the Saints.
Now, after some coaching experience in recent years, Bridgewater is making a massive impact on young athletes in more ways than one.
Florida Senate passes Teddy Bridgewater Act
According to Rivals, the Florida Senate has passed the Teddy Bridgewater Act, which will allow middle and high school coaches to use a portion of their own money to support student athletes with food, transportation, and recovery services. The allotment of allowed money for this new standard is $15,ooo.
The bill was certified by a 38-0 vote.
This decision comes after a situation that received backlash when Bridgewater was coaching at Miami Northwestern in Florida during the 2024 season. He was punished for being a good samaritan at his alma mater HS.
“Northwestern suspended Bridgewater in July after he revealed in a social media post that he spent $700 a week on Uber rides for his players during the 2024 season. He also acknowledged covering transportation, team-branded clothing, meals and recovery-related expenses at combined costs of about $27,000. Bridgewater in that post asked for donations to the Northwestern football program.”

This bill will now move to the House of Representatives for a vote. If it passes there, it will then be sent to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to potentially be signed into a law.
