The New Orleans Saints once again failed to finish today.

They struggled in every phase in the fourth quarter. A former star for the Saints noticed.

Lance Moore, a wideout for New Orleans during some of their best offensive seasons, had some harsh criticism for QB Jameis Winston and punter Blake Gillikin.

Winston did not play today, but Gillikin did. He had a fine game until his final punt.

In crunch time, he shanked a punt when the Saints needed a good boot. The punt traveled just 29 yards. It gave the Bengals the ball at their own 40-yard line.

A play later, they had the lead after a long touchdown by Ja'Marr Chase.

After the punt, Winston consoled the Saints' punter. He was clearly upset about his mess-up, and that is certainly understandable.

That being said, it did cost the Saints in a big way. The loss for the Saints did not come from that since mistake.

The defense could not stop a consistent passing attack from Joe Burrow in the second half. Additionally, the offense stalled in the final quarter. The play-calling got too conservative, and it allowed the Bengals to take advantage.

Coaching to "not lose" is not the way to go, and the Saints did that today. Moore's comments are valid.

Although, it was not necessarily a bad move by Winston to go try to make his struggling teammate feel better.
