The New Orleans Saints have some high hopes for 2023. A lot of those lofty expectations sit on the shoulders of new quarterback Derek Carr. He is expected to be a big upgrade over the signal-callers that the Saints have had in recent seasons.

One Fox Sports analyst, Chris Broussard, thinks that Carr will make Saints fans quite happy this season. Broussard called the Saints QB a 'dark horse' candidate for NFL MVP this year.

That'd be quite a jump for QB play in New Orleans since Drew Brees left.

Broussard mentions that he could see Carr throwing for 4,000+ yards on the way to an NFC South title for the Saints. It's not unreasonable, but it also isn't the most likely event to occur in the league. Carr has tough competition in QBs like Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, etc.

That being said, Carr has never had the talent on both sides of the football that he will possess in New Orleans. They have a top ten defensive unit in terms of talent, and his offensive talent should be impressive, too.

The Saints starting offensive line is a solid unit in the NFC, and they have an emerging tight end in Juwan Johnson. At wide receiver, the Saints have got Chris Olave, Michael Thomas, and Rashid Shaheed as a high-upside top trio. The depth is better than years past as well.

Once Alvin Kamara returns at RB, that position's depth will be among the league's best with Jamaal Williams and Kendre Miller behind him. The chemistry between Carr and his teammates has been extremely positive so far.

Broussard is drinking the Kool-Aid from New Orleans. It will be intriguing to see if the Saints new QB can prove him right or not.
