‘Give me a few years, and I could be the best’ — Drew Brees gleams his confidence in becoming another type of NFL legend
Drew Brees is ready to return to NFL broadcasting. Will he impress this time around?
New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees is not backing down. Amid plenty of doubt in his abilities to broadcast for NFL games, the former NFL quarterback and future Hall of Famer is still determined to get back in the booth. He has a lot of confidence in himself to become one of the greats when it comes to calling games, along with his storied playing past.
Drew Brees is confident in his return to announcing
In a recent appearance with Dan Patrick, the Saints legend made it clear that he believes he could be one of the best in NFL broadcasting
“I have so much respect for a lot of guys in the booth right now, but I’d step in the booth today and be a top-3 guy. Give me a few years, and I could be the best.” — Drew Brees via Dan Patrick Show
Brees has called Notre Dame football games recently, so his experience has grown. That being said, he’s only actually gotten to broadcast for two NFL games. That’s not a ton of time to learn the ropes, even if he was working behind the scenes with some of the greats in the booth.
With more time, Brees thinks he can pass up some of these other announcing options around NFL circles. That would be quite impressive, but it is also a very lofty goal.
Brees’ next chance in the booth
Brees is getting another chance as a game day analyst for some NFL action this season, too. Fans will not have to wait long to hear from him during a game once again. Brees will be an analyst for Netflix on Christmas Day. The specific matchup that he will be a part of is not known yet.
Sports broadcasting legend Joe Buck also shared that he feels like Brees didn’t get the opportunity he deserved previously. He thinks that he could excel in the sector if he gets more reps.
“I think Jason Witten got a bad shake. I think Drew Brees got a raw deal. And if there’s anybody who was ever created in a computer to be a top analyst at a network, I think it’s Drew Brees, and I would love to see him get another chance at that.
He got one game, and he was working with a new crew and a new play-by-play guy, and everybody expected brilliance. You make one comment, and it gets its own life on social media. It’s just ridiculous.” — Joe Buck via the Sports Media with Richard Deitsch’s podcast
Buck is getting his wish. Brees remains confident in his ability to improve in the booth, given ore opportunities come his way. That’s a fair assessment. We will see if the former Saints QB gets even more chances to prove himself in the coming years. The interest from him is certainly there.
