The New Orleans Saints just received a bit of a curveball on Tuesday afternoon. After early morning reports across the NFL that they were planning to sign veteran RB Kareem Hunt and LB Anthony Barr, new information surfaced. Both Hunt and Barr left New Orleans without a deal to discuss potential contracts with other teams.

That comes as a shock to fans around the NFL, as well as potentially the Saints themselves. Dianna Russini reported early on Tuesday that the Saints were expected to add both players – if they were in good shape and passed physicals. There is potential that that was not the case during their time in New Orleans, though. Only time will tell.

According to Russini, Hunt was contacted by a different team before he even worked out for the Saints. The Indianapolis Colts offered him more money. Accordingly, he was advised to attend a meeting with the Colts after leaving New Orleans.

For Barr, it could also be a money situation as well. He and his agent may want to look for a better financial deal or a landing spot with a different role for his skillset.

All in all, it was on the Saints to make sure that neither player left town without signing – if they were both healthy. More details are sure to emerge in the coming days regarding both Barr and Hunt. The Saints are still in contention for them, but this recent news is definitely an intriguing turn of events.
