Kellen Moore’s quest for first win as Saints head coach just got a bit simpler after latest 49ers injury update
Would make a massive difference for the Saints.
Getting your first win in the pros isn’t easy. New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore flirted with that in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. New Orleans had somer impressive moments, but penalties and a lack of explosive offensive plays hindered their shot to earn the win.
In Week 2, the Saints will face a 1-0 San Francisco 49ers squad. At the surface, this is a scary matchup for a Saints team that is particularly young and inexperienced on defense. That being said, recent injury updates may tilt the scale a tad bit toward the Saints if certain players are not able to suit up for San Francisco.
49ers may be without QB Brock Purdy vs. Saints
Quarterback Brock Purdy is a “long shot” to play against the Saints, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. If Purdy cannot go, Mac Jones will start for San Francisco.
It could be a multi-week injury for the starting QB, per Shanahan. That is a major concern for SF, following the placement of star tight end George Kittle on injured reserve earlier this week. He’s out for at least four weeks.
Meanwhile, the Saints’ plan must adapt based on who starts at QB for San Francisco. I think the absence of Purdy would actually change the running game for the 49ers the most dramatically, though. If Jones starts, the 49ers will want to control the ground game and keep the clock on their side.
Kellen Moore is looking for his first victory as an NFL head coach. His opportunity in Week 2 just got a lot clearer, if Shanahan’s concern comes to fruition for Purdy and the 49ers. Only time will tell. Injury reports will be revealed as the week unfolds.
