The New Orleans Saints added another important puzzle piece to their offense in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Texas Longhorns offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. will leap into the OL unit for Kellen Moore. He could start at guard or tackle as a rookie.
One of his former coaches, as well as a couple of extremely popular, experienced coaching minds, were fans of the pick by New Orleans.
Steve Sarkisian praises Kelvin Banks Jr.
The Longhorns head coach, and one of the most well-respected offensive minds in CFB, had some big-time praise recently for the newest Saints offensive tackle.
"I think Kelvin's your perfect Longhorn. I've said this all along, I would tell any player coming into our program, if you want to be great, be like Kelvin Banks. His demeanor, his work ethic, his drive, his attention to detail, his ability to remain consistent in his approach on and off the field, it all shows in his play. He's a high-level player who obviously has all the measurables that the NFL is looking for in a great left tackle, and he started there for us from the day he arrived as a freshman." — Sarkisian on Banks' impact at Texas
"You can absolutely count on him. He was there every day and showed up with a constant level of consistency – who he was some of the time was who he was all of the time. When you can couple that with the skill set, the measurables, and knowing that he's still only played three years of college football – he is an absolute no-brainer of a first-round pick. He's accomplished so much, but his best days are still ahead of him. New Orleans is so fortunate to have him." — Sarkisian on Banks' reliability and effort
Nick Saban, Mike McCarthy discuss New Orleans' pick
A couple of other very well-known football minds discussed the Saints' selection of the former Longhorn, too.
Nick Saban noted that he has great feet for a big man. He also mentioned his sets multiple times, as he dominated against some pass rushers in big game for Texas.
Former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy loved the Banks pick as well. McCarthy mentioned that he thinks the Saints now have an "outstanding" offensive line. Some legit praise from a long-time NFL leader.
All in all, there has been a ton of support for Banks and the Saints following the addition of their newest rookie offensive tackle.
New Orleans Saints’ first-round pick Kelvin Banks Jr. will feel a ton of pressure from the fans, but that’s not his fault whatsoever
There's a new offensive line option headed to the New Orleans Saints. Texas OT Kelvin Banks Jr. is their latest first-round selection, the first for head coach Kellen Moore. Grading the Saints' selection of Kelvin Banks Jr. I like this pick. Really, I do. Banks has a solid floor as a guard, at minimum. Ideally, […]
