The hits keep coming for the New Orleans Saints offensive line. The latest injury for the unit is one of the most impactful losses so far in the preseason or training camp for the black and gold.

Landon Young suffers injury

The swing tackle for New Orleans was carted off the field in the second quarter. The medical staff did not use an air cast on Young, but he did look to be in a lot of pain after suffering the injury. The specifics of the ailment is unknown, but this is yet another blow to the OL depth for the Saints.

Young had a roster spot locked up for the Saints. Now, we could see a competition at the swing tackle spot, but New Orleans will almost be forced to add a free agent option there ahead of the season opener.

Keep in mind – teams around the NFL will be cutting down their rosters over the next handful of days. This injury could open the door for a roster spot to be taken by an unexpected piece of the roster currently.

Offensive line depth will be tested for New Orleans

Add Young to a laundry list of injury problems along the offensive line unit for Kellen Moore’s team. Will Clapp, projected top backup at center, is out for the season due to a foot injury. Guard Nick Saldiveri won’t play this season due to a knee injury. Trevor Penning is currently missing time with an injury and may not be ready for Week 1.

Young was expected to have a notable role for Moore’s offense this season, but now, that’s on pause. The Saints will hope for the best regarding his new ailment, but it’s never a pleasant sight to see the cart come out for any player so quickly after suffering an injury.
