The New Orleans Saints are attempting to plan out their quarterback position for the rest of this season. Spencer Rattler is expected to start in Week 16 against the Green Bay Packers.

Past that, Derek Carr's potential return remains up in the air.

Latest on Carr

According to Ian Rapoport, Carr is still weeks away from withstanding contact.

Derek Carr underwent further examination recently and he’s at least a few weeks away from being able to withstand contact. With 3 weeks remaining, a return this season is described as very unlikely. — Rapoport

According to Mike Triplett and Nick Underhill, Carr is attempting to beat that sort of timetable for a return to the field for the Saints.

New Orleans does not plan to place him on injured reserve as of now, keeping the door open for a return over the final weeks of play.

We've heard similar things about this injury. Door isn't closed but the injury is significant and though there was no surgery, it's not a minor injury.

— Nick Underhill

We will see if Carr returns this season. For New Orleans, it would not make much sense to risk further injury to the veteran QB. That being said, there is no doubt that he is striving to get back out there to try to help the Saints offense.
