We are getting closer and closer to the start of the 2025 season, and the latest step forward involves the NFL's schedule release on Wednesday.
The New Orleans Saints already know who's on the docket and where it plays, but it doesn't know when and how the future opponents stack up in terms of the order they meet. Those are two crucial factors when it comes to determining the difficulty, or ease, of a team's regular season schedule.
So, with that being said and some of the unknowns on track to be revealed at various points before Wednesday, let's go ahead and dive into some predictions for the Saints' 2025 schedule release.
1. Saints will open season against Chicago Bears
New Orleans could have a really intriguing Week 1 matchup – if this occurs. Dennis Allen is the new defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears. The Saints will want to beat their former head coach, under their new HC in Kellen Moore.
For Chicago, the only other matchup that could really get folks excited may be with the division foe Detroit Lions. Ben Johnson left Detroit as an assistant to become the lead man for the Bears.
Regardless, New Orleans will want to get another jab in to prove that they made the correct decision last season to move on from Allen and start anew.
2. New Orleans will finish season against division foe
This seems like a nearly annual occurrence for the Saints. Recently, playing the Falcons, Panthers, or Bucs to wrap up the season has been nearly a necessity to get all of their NFC South matchups in during the regular season.
I do not think the league will change that this year, either. The NFC South is expected to be a tight race, even if the Saints are projected to finish in one of the bottom two slots. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the clear favorites, so having the Saints play a potential spoiler to close the season for them could make a lot of sense.
On the flip-side, the Saints' strong rivalry with Atlanta could make for the strongest way to close regular season play for both teams. This is one to watch for, purely because of the disdain these rivals have for each other in some matchups.
3. Jameis Winston won't start against Saints
How does this have anything to do with the schedule release? I am of the belief that Winston could vie for the starting quarterback role in Week 1 for the New York Giants. He will battle with Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart.
Even if Winston can land the starting role to kick off the season, I think Brian Daboll, head coach of the Giants, will choose to go to rookie Jaxson Dart by a certain point of the year. There is a ton of pressure on Daboll and the front office in New York, so I predict the Saints will play the Giants in the back half of the season – when Dart is their starting QB.
NFL executive confirms suspicion around Saints’ selection of QB Tyler Shough in second round of 2025 NFL Draft
The NFL Draft is always a whirlwind of reports, rumors, and expectations. Every team has a plan of action, and that plan can change based on every single pick, especially in the first couple of rounds. For the New Orleans Saints, they landed one of their top quarterback prospects in the class in Louisville QB […]
