The NFL is a tough place to have a job. You must perform quickly and often to keep your spot in most instances. Simply put, get the job done or the team will find someone who can. For the New Orleans Saints, they're still waiting on head coach Dennis Allen to truly prove he's the guy for the job.

As New Orleans sits at 2-5, alongside a current five-game losing streak, the rumblings continue to grow for a change at the head coach position.

The team has dealt with tons of injuries over the past two years, but at some point, results have to show up at the professional level.

Colin Cowherd goes off on Dennis Allen

Cowherd discussed coaching hot seats around the NFL. Unfortunately for New Orleans, Allen made the cut for him. He's not seeing any sort of success from Allen's tenure, and he is not wrong.

"Somebody grab a fire extinguisher. Dennis Allen, no playoff appearances with the Raiders or the Saints. I don't know if he can build a staff… I just don't see anything that is special here… What is Dennis Allen?"

Cowherd is not always a strong opinion source. That being said, this sentiment from him is felt by plenty of Saints fans and members of the media.

That being said, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has defended he veteran coach as recently as earlier in October.

Loomis wants everyone to look at particular hurdles that Allen has dealt with during his tenure. Many of those obstacles have been created due to the salary cap situation, as well as decision-making inside games from Allen. Loomis did not admit anything of that sort, though. No one would expect any front office member to do that.

When it comes to winning football games, Allen has struggled with that task in the ranks of some of the worst head coaches in league history. Regardless of difficulties out of his control, the excuses count to mount – while losses do, too.

We will see how the Saints navigate the next couple of weeks. More losses could make the chair need a fire extinguisher for Allen. Only time will tell how safe his job truly is, in the eyes of New Orleans' front office.
