Michael Thomas is a difference maker in New Orleans.

The only problem is that he hasn't played since Jan. 10, 2021. Though Thomas isn't expected to play in the preseason, he is on track for the regular season opener against Atlanta on Sept. 11. With Thomas' impending return, Kyle T. Mosley of Saints News Network asked NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice about Thomas. And in that interview, what Rice had to say, should make those who are fans of Thomas gleefully happy.

I think he was at the top of his game," Rice said. "It's unfortunate that he sustained some injuries, but this guy is a key component [for the New Orleans Saints]," Rice noted. "And if he's on that football field, he's a threat. I have watched his route running and his ability to catch the ball over the middle. He doesn't shy away from contact or anything like that. He's a playmaker. So if he's on the field, that's fantastic."

Thomas may not have played in a while, but his impact is still recognized by the NFL's legends. As his game-time comeback nears, New Orleans is more eager than ever to have its elite playmaker back.

The last time Thomas was fully healthy, he won the 2019 AP Offensive Player of the Year. During that season, Thomas recorded 149 receptions, 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns. He was simply a level above the rest.

2022 may be the season he finally finds his footing as a star in New Orleans again. And with the additions of Jarvis Landry and Chris Olave, New Orleans may possess one of the most dangerous wide receiver groups in the NFL with a healthy Thomas.
