The New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles played an unbelievably gritty game in Week 3. The Eagles came out victorious, but both teams suffered many injuries during the showdown.
Earlier this week, Saints rookie defensive lineman Khristian Boyd was fined by the NFL for a hit on Eagles WR Devonta Smith. Some perceived the hard hit as a "dirty" one.
There are plenty of opinions swirling around Boyd and this hit on Smith. In actuality, it was most likely a young player trying to make a play during his limited time on the field. If he could spark a momentum turn, he wanted to do so in a pivotal time of the game.
Now, the league has extended another fine for some physicality in that game between Philly and New Orleans.
NFL fines C.J. Gardner-Johnson for hit on Alvin Kamara
Gardner-Johnson threw Kamara down after he was out of bounds on the third play of the game. The Eagles DB was not penalized for the play during the game, just like Boyd was not for his hit on Smith.
Gardner-Johnson called out the Saints for a "cheap shot" on Smith (Boyd's hit). The tables have now turned.
"Man, that's the dirtiest s–t I ever saw in football, bro… Y'all obviously saw forward progression was stopped. For them to take a cheap shot on one of our key players, it goes to show what type of team that is. They're front-runners."
The Eagles defensive back has now been fined two weeks in a row. Saints fans know his antics quite well, as he started his NFL career in black and gold.
CGJ is an instigator on the football field, and his team uses those actions for energy in most cases. This time, his bold nature costed him some weight in his wallet.
