The New Orleans Saints just fell to the 49ers to drop the 4-8 on the season. The likelihood of a playoff push is dwindling by the week, and the Saints continue to prove that they cannot avoid back-breaking mistakes.

New Orleans is just much too inconsistent under Dennis Allen this year.

The staff, as a whole, has been a bit disappointing. Injuries have hurt the team plenty, but continuously shooting themselves in the foot has been even more painful.

The Saints are still living in the past.

The Saints kept Dennis Allen and elevated him to head coach for continuity. New Orleans gave the offensive coordinator job to Pete Carmichael Jr. He coached under Sean Payton for many years in New Orleans.

They didn't heavily invest in quarterback during the off-season and gave Jameis Winston another chance that has not worked out whatsoever.

The Saints brought in a veteran on the downhill in Andy Dalton as a backup plan.

New Orleans signed veteran defenders to try to replace some of their young talent in the secondary.

With almost every move, they doubled down on trying to do exactly what they have done in the past couple of seasons. Seasons that did not achieve what they hoped.

Overall, they just tried to patch up holes that need a lot more than patchwork in order to improve.

That has only set the Saints back even further. Now, for yet another year, they do not know who their quarterback of the future is for the franchise. They also have major questions along the staff.

The continuity was based on talent and performances that are no longer on the Saints' football team.

Now, it is just blowing up in Mickey Loomis and company's face.

The end of this season may need to bring wide scale change to the New Orleans Saints.

Sean Payton is not in New Orleans anymore. The best he can give them now is a future draft pick or two.

The Saints have to stop trying to reinvent what they had in the past with Payton and Drew Brees. New Orleans has to move forward.
