The New Orleans Saints have been busy bees this offseason with financial maneuvering for salary cap purposes and player transactions.

Signing quarterback Derek Carr is unquestionably the biggest move the Saints have made, and reworking the deal of wide receiver Michael Thomas isn't far behind. That being said, Betonline.ag has the Saints with the fourth-best odds to make the playoffs in 2023, and if they do, it will be their first playoff appearance in three seasons.

As far as the NFC goes, only the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles have better chances than the Saints, and they rank one spot ahead of the Dallas Cowboys.

They re-signed defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon and defensive tackle Malcolm Roach. Both are good depth pieces, but they will look different in the trenches. After losing defensive tackles David Onyemata and Shy Tuttle in free agency, the Saints brought in Khalen Saunders and Nathan Shepherd, although some feel they overpaid for both.

New Orleans did some shuffling in the secondary as well. Versatile defensive back Lonnie Johnson Jr. provides depth at cornerback and safety, and veteran safety Johnathan Abram will also compete for snaps.

Quarterback Jameis Winston will return for the upcoming season, but that's not all the Saints have done offensively. 2022 rushing touchdown leader Jamaal Williams was signed to a three-year deal for $12 million to add some juice at running back with Alvin Kamara.

As far as pass catchers go, the Saints brought in veteran Bryan Edwards who spent two seasons with Carr in Las Vegas, and they also re-signed tight end Juwan Johnson to a two-year contract.

With Tom Brady hitting retirement, the Saints are the favorite to take over the NFC South. Their quarterback is in place, they have weapons on offense, and despite some roster churning, the Saints' defense should still be good. So, all that's left is to draft smart and put it all together when September rolls around.
