The New Orleans Saints currently pick in the top ten of the 2024 NFL Draft. If that is the case by April, quarterback will be on the table.

At the least Trevor Sikkema from Pro Football Focus believes that, and he's probably correct, too.

In his latest mock draft, he sent LSU quarterback and Heisman finalist Jayden Daniels to the Saints at the ninth overall selection.

Daniels is the biggest riser in the draft class to this point. An afterthought for many going into the year, Daniels had a Heisman-worthy season at LSU. He recorded elite season grades as a passer and a runner to garner the top overall quarterback grade in the FBS (94.7). He has drastically improved both how he takes care of the football (see 2022) and how he sees the field and executes big-time plays (see 2023).

The selection would revitalize a lot of the Saints fan base. They've been clamoring for Daniels as he has risen up draft boards throughout his impressive campaign for the Tigers this season. He played like one of the best QBs in the entire country, and his statistics are easily on top.

The LSU QB's accomplishment list is probably longer than most children's Christmas list.

  • Leads FBS in QBR
  • Leads FBS in total offense
  • Tied for the lead in FBS passing TD's
  • 95.6 Total QBR would be 2nd-best in CFB history
  • 4 games with 200 Pass & 100 Rush yds; all other SEC QBs combined for 3

Daniels' physical talent is special. His processing and decision-making has come a long way from the start of his college career as well. He threw just four interceptions in 2023 – compared to 40 TDs.

Jameis Winston doesn't seem to be in the long-term plans for New Orleans. Derek Carr is on a four-year deal, but the Saints have monetary capabilities to get out of it following next season. If they think that Daniels is the future, he will be on the table.

Daniels entered the CFB season as an intriguing college QB that was not on the NFL draft radar whatsoever.

Now, the consensus is that Daniels will be a first-round pick, possibly in the top ten – as he was in PFF's scenario.

Where the Saints pick in the 2024 NFL Draft entering Week 14

The New Orleans Saints have been a frustrating team. They sit at 5-7 with one of the easiest schedules in the NFL.  After thirteen weeks of play, they've got a top ten pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. That could lead to many difference scenarios for New Orleans.  Where are they projected to pick in […]

Plus, keep in mind that a top ten pick for the Saints would probably result in sweeping coaching changes. Dennis Allen's relationship with Derek Carr would become irrelevant for New Orleans.

Daniels is a fever dream for many Saints fans. At this point, though, it isn't a dream. It is a legitimate possibility for New Orleans if they continue to disappoint to round out this season.
