Saints get good news on key defender
This was welcomed news in New Orleans.
Safety Marcus Maye signed a three-year deal for $28.5 million with the New Orleans Saints last March. However, about six months later, an incident happened that he surely wished didn't take place.
Maye was arrested on Sept. 1, 2022, on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm after an alleged road rage incident that occurred in Metairie, Louisiana. Several juvenile females said that Maye was the driver of a black SUV and pointed a gun at them after he left the Saints facility.
After posting a $30,000 bond, Maye was released, and his attorney, Eric Hessler, denied the allegations and claimed that the safety didn't have a firearm in his vehicle.
On Thursday, due to insufficient evidence, all charges against Maye were dropped.
As Maye goes into his second season with the Saints, he's certainly glad this particular situation is over with. However, he could still face discipline from the NFL from an incident in 2021 when he was charged with driving under the influence, DUI damage to property/person, leaving the scene of the accident, and careless driving.
Maye pleaded not guilty to all of those charges and his next court date is March 29. The case has been continued on several occasions.
