The Saints need to trade multiple pieces, and Taylor could be one.

The New Orleans Saints should be looking to have an active trade deadline over the next 24 hours or so. They keyword there is “should” – as there are some beliefs that they’ll be reserved in selling off veterans, even as they sit in the basement of the NFC South at 1-8 and currently hold the number one overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. That would be a mistake.

Cornerback Alontae Taylor is a player who has gotten buzz in recent weeks as one who may muster some trade interest along the market around the NFL. If New Orleans does choose to trade him before the deadline, what are some teams who could be interested in making that deal with the Saints?

4 teams that could trade for Saints CB Alontae Taylor at the NFL trade deadline

I discussed four potential suitors with different contributors around A to Z Sports to grab some insight on needs and fits around the NFL for Taylor. Check out what each had to say below.

Jacksonville Jaguars

“Greg Newsome has gotten better and better every single week for the Jacksonville Jaguars since getting there via trade for Tyson Campbell. However, after Travis Hunter is going to miss some significant time, it’s clear the Jaguars do need some more help there in the secondary. Taylor would be a good fit for what their defense likes to do, and even when Hunter comes back, Taylor could still find himself with a role on the team. There’s no reason the Jaguars should have given up the amount of passing yards they did to Geno Smith and the Raiders, one of the worst units in the league, when the defensive line was putting pressure on him all day long. Brock Bowers had a massive day, and while no one can really stop him, having more pieces to prepare yourself for those situations is what they need. Not to mention, Jourdan Lewis got banged up against the Raiders, too.” — Justin Churchill, A to Z Sports

Indianapolis Colts

“To be candid, Alontae Taylor wouldn’t be my top choice for the Colts to add at the trade deadline. I think Taylor is the best used in the slot, and Kenny Moore II has that spot locked up for Indy. But I think Taylor’s athletic profile would fit Lou Anarumo’s defense well. Taylor has struggled a bit for the Saints this year, but I think his skill set would be better utilized on the Colts. If the Saints are willing to sell low on Taylor, I wouldn’t be against seeing the Colts offer something like a fifth for Taylor and a seventh. At best, he could slide into the second outside starting spot, and at worst, he’d be a better rotational CB than the Colts currently have.” — Destin Adams, A to Z Sports

Minnesota Vikings

“The Minnesota Vikings have a need at cornerback, and have had one for the last three plus years. They just don’t have enough talent in the room, especially after having multiple draft picks not work out for a number of reasons. They have been hesitant to acquire a true slot cornerback, but the market is far from flush with talent at the position with most of the young talent having already signed extensions. Taylor would be able to step in and allow the Vikings to play more man coverage and be multiple with their post-snap transitions. He also would be somewhat cost effective for this season. If the Vikings can acquire him for a fifth round pick or potentially a smaller pick swap, it could boost them to a different level.” — Tyler Forness, A to Z Sports

Chicago Bears

“The Bears already made one move to reunite Dennis Allen with a former defensive back from his time in New Orleans when Chicago signed C.J. Gardner-Johnson last week to make up for the loss of Kyler Gordon. It was a low-risk move in terms of not giving up any draft capital and one that seemed to work out so far after his debut in Week 9. At the same time, the outside cornerback position still proved to be a big concern against the Cincinnati Bengals, as was a struggling pass rush. If Allen sees the outside cornerback spot as a biggest need for his unit, reuniting with Taylor still makes some sense for the right price. Chicago isn’t going to be eager to move any significant draft picks so it entirely depends on what New Orleans would be asking for in return.” — Kole Noble, A to Z Sports

Moving on from Taylor just seems to make the most sense for the Saints.

They can probably garner an early day three pick, and they need as much draft capital to invest in young talent as possible. Not to mention, Taylor and the Saints haven’t found terms on a new contract, so getting something in return for the defender is notably better than him walking away at season’s end for nothing at all.
