The New Orleans Saints are doing something very intriguing when it comes to their quarterback situation. New Orleans has a new QB in veteran gunslinger Derek Carr, the former Las Vegas Raiders starter. They believe that his abilities can help them to re-establish dominance in the NFC South. The Saints brought in former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden in this week to help with the onboarding process with Carr.
According to reports, Gruden spent most of his time in the facility working hand-in-hand with the veteran QB. Carr discussed how the Saints' system compares to Gruden's, one that he played in for the Raiders earlier in his career.
"It's a new system, new words, (but) a lot of similarities to things that I grew up on and believe in. It's still a learning curve, but not as big of a curve as it could be in a different system or a different offense."
Carr recorded a 97.3 passer rating with Las Vegas from 2018-21 under Gruden. The QB also recorded a 70.4% completion rate in 2019, the highest of his NFL career.
The best play of Carr's career so far came under Gruden, so it makes sense that the Saints wanted him to discuss his transition to his new scheme in New Orleans.
