Saints top WR Chris Olave will miss New Orleans’ season finale due to blood clot in his lung
A scary situation emerged for the Saints WR1.
New Orleans Saints top wide receiver Chris Olave has overcome plenty so far in his NFL career. He admitted in recent weeks that he even contemplated retirement at 24 years old when he dealt with concussion concerns again last season. Olave’s got a new medical hurdle to deal with, but he has a lot of support behind him.
Olave won’t play in the Saints’ regular season finale against the Atlanta Falcons.
Chris Olave will miss Week 18 game with blood clot in his lung
According to Nick Underhill, Tyler Shough and the Saints offense will be without Chris Olave in Week 18. They will be missing their star wide receiver due to a new medical situation that could have turned scary quickly. He had a blood clot detected in his lung.
Olave posted on social media regarding the situation with his lung. Looks like doctors were able to detect in early enough for him to avoid any long-term issues.
Olave’s injury history has been well-documented. That’s why this season felt different for the young wideout. He was consistently available and avoided any concussion problems. That’s a massive accomplishment for a player who just had some tough luck in years prior.
With his ability to suit up weekly, Olave emerged as one of the most productive wideouts in football. In sixteen games, the receiver totaled 100 receptions, 1,163 yards, and nine touchdowns. Those were all career highs for him. Olave dealt with a lingering back injury over the final handful of games but played through it and excelled.
For the Saints, they should be happy that Olave avoided any emergency scenario that could put his career in peril. More so, they should be excited that he is okay and looks to be doing well. Blood clots are a terrifying situation, and this came out of nowhere.
As for the final game of this season, the wide receiver corps for the offense will be barren. Kevin Austin Jr. and Dante Pettis could headline the group, as Mason Tipton is still dealing with an injury. Hiss status is unknown currently. It remains to be seen if New Orleans will attempt to elevate someone from the practice squad or sign a veteran to provide a bit more depth at WR.
