The hits keep coming for the New Orleans Saints. Holding onto the "in the Hunt" moniker entering Week 16, they'll be without one of their top players against the Green Bay Packers, one of the best teams in the NFC.
Alvin Kamara unlikely to play on MNF
The Saints' star running back probably won't suit up in Green Bay. He is considered wek-to-week. According to head coach Darren Rizzi, Kamara's groin injury is more significant than initially thought.
Accordingly, expect a large uptick in workload for young running back Kendre Miller. He has impressed fans and the staff over the past couple of weeks since returning from injured reserve.
Jamaal Williams may also get more snaps, and recently-signed Clyde Edwards-Helaire may be active as the third RB option on offense.
Without Kamara, expected starting quarterback Spencer Rattler will be without his top four pieces in the passing game. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed will not play at wideout. Taysom Hill is out for the season with a torn ACL.
The rookie QB will one throwing to a mixture of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kevin Austin Jr., Juwan Johnson, and Foster Moreau. Don't be surprised to see more targets for the running backs, too.
The only positive for Rattler's projection is that the offensive line is expected to be at full strength again, with Erik McCoy and Lucas Patrick in the lineup.
Against one of the best teams in football, the Saints will need to have an outrageous performance from their first-year QB if they have any chance of knowing off the Packers.
They'll most likely need to accomplish that without their top running back and leader in Kamara. Could be a tough way to begin the week of Christmas for New Orleans.
