The New Orleans Saints may not be in the postseason, but they have a rooting interest. Many players and fans of the team are cheering for the Detroit Lions.
Why? Two former Saints coaches are leading the way for Detroit. At the top, head coach Dan Campbell is a former Saints assistant, and he's turned the Lions into a contender much sooner than many folks expected. His gritty, energetic manner has made him a fan favorite coach around the NFL.
For the Detroit defense, Aaron Glenn is their coordinator. Glenn has turned the Lions defense into a top ten unit against the run, and they play extremely hard for him and his staff. They aren't the most talented defense, but they make tons of big plays.
Accordingly, the Lions just beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their Divisional matchup. They're headed to the NFC Championship, and Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas sees the effect of Campbell on Detroit.
Thomas also believes that Glenn, a former coach for the Saints secondary, deserves a head coaching job somewhere in the league.
He has gotten interviews during this offseason and is considered a strong HC candidate.
Both coaches are getting the most out of every aspect of the Lions roster. Been an impressive run. They'll play the San Francisco 49ers next weekend for a Super Bowl berth.
