The New Orleans received bad news on Sunday evening. During their victory against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1, defensive lineman Payton Turner left the game with an apparent lower body injury. Now, we know why he left and did not return.

Turner suffered a turf toe injury, according to Ian Rapoport and other sources. He will need surgery.

It is another heartbreaking turn of events for the young defender.

Turner is a former first-rounder that hasn't been able to stay on the field. Turner's played in just 13 games total in his first two years in the league. He entered the NFL as a raw prospect, and he hasn't gotten the experience needed to develop.

Not to  mention, he had an impressive offseason for the Saints. Turner flashed in the team's preseason action, and he got gleaming reports from team practices often. Sadly, we may not see him for quite awhile following his surgery.

A timetable is not yet known for his return. Turf toe injury recoveries can vary. Regardless, it is a tough break for Turner and the Saints defense.
