The New Orleans Saints had issues on defense in 2022. The defensive line showed inconsistencies and didn't get to the passer often enough. It's only been one week in 2023, but their win against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 showed impressive growth.
In 2022, the Saints totaled 34 quarterback hits. On Sunday, they had 10 of them agaisnt Ryan Tannehill.
The entire unit had a phenomenal day, and both their edge rushers and interior players made major plays to secure the win. Cameron Jordan looked like a Pro Bowler, while Carl Granderson erupted for multiple sacks. Rookie Bryan Bresee was impressive in limited snaps, too. Expect even more playing time for him going forward.
All in all, the Saints have seemingly turned a weakness from last season into a strength for this season.
Don't forget about the secondary, either. Their coverage gave them time to get pressure consistently.
Not to mention, the Saints shut down the Titans running game in the second half. Linebackers Demario Davis and Pete Werner played a massive role in that.
Every level of the defense made plays. The Saints needed it in the close victory, but performances like this one should make fans quite confident in New Orleans for this year.
