The New Orleans Saints made some splash plays in their Week 3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. That being said, they could not get the biggest stop of the game late in the fourth quarter.
From a personnel standpoint, the Saints' defensive line had a notable new look for much of the NFC matchup. A well-known piece saw a step back in playing time.
Cam Jordan loses playing time in loss to Eagles
The former star edge rusher has been pushed to a rotational role in 2024. Week 3 was a massive example of that for the Saints defender.
Jordan played just twenty snaps against Philadelphia.
Carl Granderson and Chase Young were both more effective. Accordingly, Dennis Allen rewarded them with more playing time than the veteran fan favorite.
Granderson was one of the brightest spots on the entire defensive unit. He's third in QB pressures so far this season with eighteen.
Dennis Allen explains why Cam Jordan played less in Week 3
"You’re probably going to see a little bit more of Chase and Carl … Cam is still a vital part of what we do. … it’s no disrespect towards Cam, but it’s kind of how this game goes at some point in time.”

Jordan's role has evolved this season. He began taking more snaps inside as a defensive tackle, accompanied by some plays of the edge as well.
Allen is giving offenses a ton of different looks with his linemen, but in Week 3, many of those glances lacked the former Pro Bowler. We will see if Jordan continues to see a lower snap count going forward.
Jordan remains under contract with New Orleans through 2026. He will be 37 years old in 2026.
