The New Orleans Saints are prepping for their second matchup with the Carolina Panthers in Week 9. The NFC South clash is between two of the teams struggling the most over the past month or so of play. Both teams desperately need a win.

On Wednesday, there were some notable injury updates on both sides.

Derek Carr could return

Carr has missed the last three games due to an oblique injury. Those missed games were all losses, extending New Orleans' losing skid to six games in a row. They have not won since Week 2. Carr practiced on Wednesday in a limited fashion.

Dennis Allen was confident in Carr's potential availability this weekend, and this practice update is another positive for the veteran quarterback. He has been doing throwing sessions since last week, but today's practice was another step forward.

LB Nephi Sewell, OG Nick Saldiveri, OL Shane Lemieux all returned to practice, too. Who was not seen at practice on Wednesday? Check out the list below.

  • WR Cedrick Wilson Jr. (Hip)
  • WR Bub Means (Ankle)
  • CB Marshon Lattimore (Hamstring)
  • RB Kendre Miller (Hamstring)
  • S Tyrann Mathieu
  • CB Rico Payton (Back)

Bryce Young set to start

One of those two victories so far this season came in Week 1 against Young and the Panthers. New Orleans dominated Carolina in that game, 47-10.

After Andy Dalton suffered an injury in a car accident last week, Young started for Carolina in Week 8. Dalton practice on Wednesday, but head coach Dave Canales named Young the team's Week 9 starter.

In Week 1, Young totaled just 161 passing yards on 13 completions. He attempted 30 passes in that matchup and threw two interceptions. Young and the entire offense struggled mightily. He was also sacked four times in Week 1.
